THL W100 Review

This past week I had a pleasant time with Chinese smartphone THL W100. Where their slogan goes Technology Happy Life. In China. It’s well-known brand for smartphones and currently the company has about 340 stores in all the cities of China. Anyway I thought that THL W100 is average and among the cheapest quad core mobile, he is anything but average smartphone. China has several popular international brands including ZTE, Huawei, Oppo and Lenovo. THL is another brand that is very popular in China.

 THL W100 Review

Design and Ergonomics

On the front side we have the very good IPS screen. Although the resolution of the screen is only 960 x 540 the display is remarkably high quality. The screen also have excellent viewing angles. And on the bottom are the classical capacitive buttons for back, return to the menu and options, as well as on most Android phones.

Software

W100 runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and there is also installed Google Play and Google Now. The device is running a slightly different than stock Android. The biggest difference is visible in the transparency of the app draw. It is visually pleasing and a good move from THL.

Performance

The MediaTek MT6589 series processors are becoming increasingly popular at cheaper quad-core smartphones on market. Since it uses one of the the latest core architectures from ARM. It is a good choice for this smartphone and other similar devices. The phone scores 13,743 on AnTuTu benchmark.  Older dual core smartphones like the HTC One S score just under 7000 on AnTuTu. Overall the THL W100 performed very well and there was no lags or annoying pauses during use.

Camera

The W100 have 8MP camera with flash which takes very good photos and certainly is well beyond what to expect in this price range. You can see below the quality of camera of this device. Camera also has many options for example HDR, face detection, panorama and continuous shooting. 5MP front camera I tested with Skype in conjunction with the iPad 3. Image on iPad was sharp and clear and I have no complaints.

Battery

ThL provides two 1800 mAh batteries. The battery is a solid quality. ThL W100 can play movies for about six hours on one charge which is very good. I was very curious and I removed the label from the battery. And I found out that the real capacity of the battery is 1500 mAh (see the photo below).

In my opinion they could write the actual battery capacity. But what’s done is done.

Conclusion

THL W100 has great performance and will satisfy every user. This is not a Samsung Galaxy S4 or a HTC One, but it costs a lot less than they do. It has a quad core processor based on ARM’s low power consumption Cortex A7. Only complaint that I have is the lack of 3G network if the network is not at 2100MHz. So make sure that you check that before you buy it. All that you can get for only $160.

I’m absolutely inlove with THL W100 the moment I saw it in merimobiles.com..I’m using it now and the display is superb, lifelike and it’s very convenient to watch videos and movies. I must say also, that having this in most cheapest price sealed the deal for most users like me. It’s really all about personal preference.

      Hi,

this is because this phone does not support 3g on 900mhz, it only supports on 2100mhz. you need to change to use 3g only on 2100mhz. tell me when you are done. tnx
